PAUL W, RABE

PAUL W. RABE, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, May 31, 2011. It was with great sadness that he passed away but now he is resting in peace and free of all pain.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Clint Hogrefe will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6th from 1-8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Paul was born to Paul & Ida (Muckler) Rabe on July 23, 1922 at Letcher, South Dakota. He attended rural grade school at Loomis, South Dakota and high school at Letcher, South Dakota. After seven years of drought and no crops they moved to Paullina. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was an Anti-Aircraft Gunman and made two trips across the Atlantic to Liverpool, Barry, Wales, Antwerp, Belgium and Cardiff by the Sea. He had a leave so he came home and married Marjorie Lundell on June 19, 1945 at rural Paullina, Iowa. After his leave, he went to New Orleans and was shipped out to the west coast and to many islands in the Pacific where he hauled airplanes and materials. He came home and went into business for himself, owning and operating Paullina Sand & Gravel. He was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. He was a member of Missionary Aviation Net. He enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes that he assembled. He was also a Ham Radio operator and enjoyed wood working. He retired in 1982 and for 25 years, he and Marjorie wintered in Sun City West, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Arnold who was killed during WW II & Clarence Rabe, a brother-in-law Burton Lundell.

Paul is survived by his wife Marjorie; three children: Judy Tiano of West Lake Village, California; Doug (Mary) Rabe of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida; Janet Florine of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren: Jenna Medina, Josh Tiano, Nick & Chad Florine; great grandchildren: Taylor & Lana Florine, Mason Medina, Liz & Jeremiah Reilly; sisters: Waldene Lundell and her husband Vernon of Cherokee, Iowa; Iona Nelson and her husband Clifford "Kip" of Denver, Colorado; sisters-in-law Delilah Rabe of Paullina, Iowa and Eleanor Lundell of Paullina, Iowa.
