ETHEL R. KINTIGH

ETHEL R. KINTIGH, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Careage Hills in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jim Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Ethel was born January 28, 1921 at Meriden, Iowa to Robert and Annie (Gibson) Lundie. She attended Meriden and Larrabee schools, graduating from Larrabee in 1938. She was married to Robert Kintigh on February 17, 1940 in Cherokee, Iowa. Ethel lived in rural Aurelia from 1943 until 1972. She moved to Cherokee following the death of her husband. She was a homemaker and also worked at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital and as a health care worker at Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 16 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Neighborhood Club and enjoyed visiting with people. She loved a well-kept home, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her one great great granddaughter. Ethel would do anything for someone in need. Ethel had resided at Careage Hills the past 2 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1972, a son-in-law Robert Smith, two brothers Robert and Harold Lundie, two sisters Jean Wadsley and Lucille Wilkie.

She is survived by two daughters; Janice Pingel and her husband Donald of Cherokee, Iowa; Betty Smith of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Darla (Todd) Anderson of Alta, Iowa; Dennis (Kim) Pingel of Cherokee, Iowa; Dawn Pingel of Cherokee, Denise Barnhart of Cherokee, Joni (Aaron) DeVos of Cherokee; 7 great grandchildren; Amanda, Mitchell, Brady, Breeana, Max, Nicole, Gerrit, one great great granddaughter Keeley, two sisters-in-law, Florence Irwin of Kingsley, Iowa; Annette Lundie of Dumont, Iowa, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
