DOROTHY C. STILES

DOROTHY CECELIA STILES, 95, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29th, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Friends may call at the Boothby Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday. Dorothy was born July 22, 1917 on the family farm in Cherokee. She was the daughter of Edith and Felix Johnson. She attended school in Cherokee and later taught country school at Afton Township #1 and Liberty Township #5 from 1936 until 1939. She was married to James Phipps in 1938. In 1959 she married Robert C. “Bud” Stiles. Dorothy was employed at Ellerbroeks Ready to Wear for several years. She then purchased the Cherokee Stationery, which she ran until 1976. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Friends of Conservation, Depot Renovation, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Little Sioux Wildlife and Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, WI and for many years the local Flying Club.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and two sisters Ruth Johnson and Jean Jobe.

She is survived by two children and their families; Jerry Phipps and his wife Patricia of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Jane Rosenthal and her husband Dan Waites of Storm Lake, Iowa. Dorothy; seven grandchildren, Nancy Harman, James Phipps, David Phipps, Mike Phipps, Molly Reinking, Jennifer Peterson and Jonathon Rosenthal; sixteen great grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Shelby, Madison, Mallory, Abbey, Benjamin, Charles, Anne, Samuel, Morgan, Joseph, Samantha, Kara, Cris, and Melinda; one sister Margy Witcraft.
