JEAN ALICE DILOCKER

JEAN A. DILOCKER, 84, of Aurelia, Iowa and former long time Cherokee resident, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4th, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert & Pastor Larry Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Jean was born September 11, 1928 on a farm near Aurelia, Iowa to Walter and Melissa (McQuinn) Mongan. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1946. She was married to Dellwood Donald Dilocker on September 11, 1947 in Cherokee, Iowa. She had lived in Cherokee from 1955 until 2006 when she entered Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center. She worked for McDonald Law Firm briefly following high school graduation. She then spent a few years at home with children and began working as a secretary for the State of Iowa at the Mental Health Institute in 1953. She worked with Dr. Galbraith’s office following her retirement with the State of Iowa from 1995 until 2003. She retired on May 7, 1995. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Cherokee. She loved having Saturday morning breakfast with a group of friends and relatives at the Family Table. She enjoyed knitting-creating keepsakes gifts for family and friends, was an avid reader, liked playing cribbage (although she felt it unfair that her grandsons seldom let her win) and loved time spent with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dellwood in 1983, a son David in 1970, brothers Walton, Elliott, John, Francis and Dexter Mongan; sisters Nellie Hanson and Ona McKenzie and many of their spouses.

She is survived by two children; Tamara (Bob) Mallory of Lakeland, Florida; Terry (Linda) Dilocker of Spencer, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sisters-inlaw and brothers-in-law; Donna Stief of Cherokee, Iowa; Frances Edwards of Blue Springs, MO.; Dennis (Sharon) Dilocker of Cherokee; Bud (June) Dilocker of Cherokee; Sybil Dilocker of Port Arthur, TX; Rita Dilocker of Omaha, NE; Lola Dilocker of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
