JUDY A. MEIKLE, 70, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, March 3, 2013 in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences can be left at The family requests that memorials be made the the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Judy was born on April 16, 1942 at Cherokee, Iowa to Harlan & Thelma (Smith) Sexton. She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1960. She then graduated from the Bernell School of Hairstyling at Ft. Dodge, Iowa in 1961. She worked as a cosmetologist for a short time until her marriage to Lynn Meikle on November 11, 1962 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. She later worked for the Cherokee Community Schools in the Hot Lunch Program for 26 years, retiring in 2003. Judy had been a resident of Cherokee for most of her life. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Degree of Honor. Judy enjoyed traveling, spending the winters in Texas, and making greeting cards and sending them to family and friends. She also liked doing all kinds of craftwork and spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Wayne, Delbert and Edward Sexton; three sisters Marion Ruring, Harlene Roles and Luella Sones.

She is survived by her husband Lynn; two sons: Doug Meikle and his wife Betsy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Chris Meikle of Lexington, Kentucky; two grandsons: Andrew and Robert Meikle; two sisters-in-law: Betty Bilney of Cherokee, Iowa; Bonita LaFave of Cherokee, Iowa; two brothers-in-law: Lee Meikle of St. Edward, Nebraska; Robert Meikle of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
