DORIS I. MILLER
(October 15, 1924 - April 19, 2012)
DORIS I. MILLER, 87, of Cherokee and formerly of Titonka, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 24th, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Additional services will be held on Wednesday April 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the Titonka United Methodist Church in Titonka, Iowa. Rev. Todd Hartsock will officiate. Eastern Star services will be conducted immediately following the church service. Burial will be in the Buffalo Township Cemetery at Titonka, Iowa. Doris was born to Raymond and Louise (Weiland) Krantz on October 15, 1924 in Titonka, IA, the fifth of eight children. She attended Titonka Consolidated School, graduating in 1941, and then attended Iowa State College. She married Clarke Miller of Titonka in Yuma, AZ on June 27, 1942. They made their home in Los Angeles, CA until 1948 when they made the decision to leave the “big city” and move back to Titonka where they became farmers. Their lives were blessed with three children: Gregory, Valerie, and Timothy. Doris assisted her husband on the farm until 1967. At that time she began work in the office of Winnebago Industries remaining there until 1977 when she and Clarke retired. They traveled extensively worldwide visiting such places as Europe, China, Panama, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands and Africa. In 1986 they purchased a mobile home in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed the winter months. The summer months were spent at Okoboji, IA. Doris moved to Cherokee, IA in 2007 following a stroke. She resided at the Beck until moving to Careage Hills in February, 2012 following another stroke.
Music was a lifelong interest of Doris. She sang in many groups. She also performed as a soloist for various organizations, including Eastern Star, for many years until she was 80. She was proud of her 50+ years as a member of the Order of Eastern Star which found her holding the office of Worthy Matron eight times as well as numerous other offices. She was active in the United Methodist Church both in Titonka, in Apache Junction, AZ and later in Cherokee, IA. Doris was a long time member of the Titonka Women’s Club. She enjoyed many hobbies including reading, working crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Doris practiced reflexology from 1971 until she was 82. She made many friends with the people she met through her practice.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarke, on March 22, 2000; and brothers and sisters: Clifford Krantz, Harold Krantz, Ferne Kitzinger, Marian Bruns, Kenneth Krantz, and Lyla Mae Krantz (in infancy).
Surviving are her children: Greg Miller of Hudson, WI; Valerie (Doug) Woods of Cherokee, IA; and Tim (Judy) Miller of Sacramento, CA; and her grandchildren: Luther, Jolene and Leah Miller of Hudson, WI; Rachel (Dave) Swanson of Apple Valley, MN; Kevin (Jodene) Woods of Mound, MN; Brent Woods of Tripp, SD; Nick Miller of Tokyo, Japan; and Jesse Miller of Kingsville, TX. She is survived by great grandchildren Jaelynn Bluemel, Teagan Seguin, Sienna Woods, Ayla Woods, Luke Swanson and Taylor Swanson; one sister Mildred Cosgrove of Pharr, TX; sister-in-law Betty (Al) Haboush of Solana Beach, CA; brother-in-law Dayle Bruns of Lakeview, AR; also many nieces and nephews.
