AARON RICHARD SOKOLOWSKI, 37, of rural Holstein, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, December 18, 2015 due to injuries received in a single vehicle accident north of Battle Creek, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. There will be military rites at the church by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m. by Father Daniel Guenther. Aaron was born on January 11, 1978 at Sioux City, Iowa to Richard & Lori (Hahn) Sokolowski. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. He attended Marcus Elementary School until 4th grade and later graduated from Galva-Holstein High School in 1996. While in high school he was active in football, wrestling, cross country, track, school band and chorus; making it to state in wrestling, cross country and track. He was also a member of 4-H during his school years. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College. He had been in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1996 until 2005. He was a farmer, drove truck, did construction work, and owned and operated Flowers Manure Business (manure hauling). He was also an alternate bus driver for the Galva-Holstein Schools, was a member of Farm Bureau and the Galva American Legion. Aaron enjoyed carpentry, riding motorcycles, camping, riding RAGBRAI, collecting die cast tractors, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lori Sokolowski in 2011, grandfather Henry Sokolowski, and an uncle George Smalling.
He is survived by his two children Joseph Henry Sokolowski and Hope Nevaeh Sokolowski; his significant other Michela Parra and her children Arianna and Gael; his father Richard (Martha) Sokolowski of Cherokee, Iowa; three sisters: Leah (Mike) Niemeier of Aurelia, Iowa; Traci (Paul) Wilkie of Larrabee, Iowa; Jessica (Damon) Busse of Cleghorn, Iowa; grandmother Eleanor Sokolowski of Marcus, Iowa; grandparents Robert and Mary Hahn of Cherokee, Iowa; uncles: Daniel Hahn, Tom Sokolowski, Bill Sokolowski; aunts: Mary Smalling, Sue (Jim) Bettenga, Jane Goldsmith; nephews: Jay, Patrick, Austin and Ethan; nieces: Kiley, Ashlynn, Addyson, Lana and Kallie; great nephew Noah; step sisters: Ashley (Jesse) Wells and their sons Bentley and Michael of Remsen, Iowa; Amber Mayer of Remsen, Iowa; also several great aunts and great uncles and other relatives and friends.
