Obituary

ALAN LEE MACKOWSKI, 55, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday April 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Alan was born on January 24, ,1956 in Peoria, Illinois to Edmond and Darlene (Mileham) Mackowski. He was baptized at St. Patrick Church in Washington, Illinois and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee with the class of 1974. After high school he completed a two year technical degree at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. Alan worked at Gomaco in Ida Grove, Iowa as a Project Engineer for 34 years.

Alan had a noted interest in cars. He loved to talk about them and was proud to have owned a Mustang. Alan was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football, basketball and baseball. His favorite teams included the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Twins, and Boston Celtics. Alan was active in sports as a youth and was a seasoned golfer and bowler. He participated in league bowling for 20 years and was a former vice president of the youth bowling at the Cherokee Bowl. Alan also enjoyed coaching his son's little league team. Most of all, he loved his children.

He is survived by his children, Heather Mackowski and Jared Mackowski of Sioux Falls, SD; former spouse and special friend, Hattie Mackowski; two brothers, Jim Mackowski and his wife Wendy of Irvine, CA; David Mackowski and his wife Tammy of West Des Moines, IA; three nieces/nephew, Mathew Mackowski, Holly Brucchieri and husband John, and Nicole Mackowski; two Aunts, Dorothy Perrin and husband Chuck of Cherokee; Barbara Anderson of Santee, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edmond in 1961 and Darlene in 2010.
