Ann Margaret was born the daughter of Jan (John) and Jana (Jane) (Vande Hoef) Leusink in Matlock, Iowa on July 31, 1921. On August 17, 1943 she married Bernard Krommendyk in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while he was on leave from the 101 st Airborne.  Following his return from WWII, they made their home in LeMars, Iowa for over 40 years.  Following retirement, they moved to Lost Island Lake near Ruthven, Iowa and then later they moved to Cherokee to be closer to family.  They were married for 65 years.

In her 100 years of life, Ann worked tirelessly making a home for her family.  She also worked in the war effort in Michigan and in Aalfs Manufacturing in LeMars for many years and later for Westmar College.  She was a good seamstress and she also made many a roast on Sunday following church.  Ann and Bernie were members of the First Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars, Hope Church in Spencer and Memorial Presbyterian in Cherokee.

Ann enjoyed being by Bernie's side as he served POW groups on a local, state and national level.  She also enjoyed annual family fishing vacations, most notably to Beard's Resort in Minnesota, following her children and grandchildren's activities, and singing hymns and listening to polka music.  She was a quiet leader of her family.  She loved to laugh along with family during their many get togethers.  All who met her during her life commented on her sweet disposition.  Her family also loved seeing her Dutch stubbornness on occasion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernie in 2009, brothers Gary Leusink and his wife Frances and later Thelma, and Gene Leusink and his wife Alice, sister Grace Dykstra and her husband Pete, brother and sister in-laws:  Margaret and Simon Disselkoen, Leonard Krommendyk, Delmar and Sylvia Krommendyk, Henrietta and John Blacquirre, JoAnn and Dick Hoogland, son-in-law Robert House and grandchildren Justin Martin and Karah Thompson.

Left to cherish her memory are five children: James Krommendyk of Cherokee, Mary (Jerry) Boatman of Dexter, IA, Dale (Robin) Krommendyk of Sioux Falls, SD, Jayne (Randy) Martin of Rockwell City, IA, and Leanne (Troy) Valentine of Cherokee; grandchildren Dennis Bos, Matthew (Abby) House, Dawn Boatman, Heather Boatman, Olivia Thompson, Spencer Krommendyk, Ryan Martin, Alanna (Gabe) Fuller, and Trey Valentine;  5 great grandchildren Tyson, Briel, Tate, Titus and Emerson, sister-in-law Lorraine Krommendyk, and brother-in-law Preston (Carol) Krommendyk and many extended family members.
