Obituary

ANNELIESE JENKINS, 95 of Huxley, Iowa, and formerly of Washta, Iowa passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2019 in the Madrid Home for the Aged at Madrid, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church in Washta, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be on Friday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Anneliese was born on April 3, 1924 in Bonn, Germany to Hurbert Josef and Anna Maria (Haas) Klein. She grew up in Andernach, Germany where she lived until 1948. She met her future husband Lowell J. Jenkins while he was stationed in Germany during WW II. She immigrated to the United States and married Lowell Jenkins on November 5, 1948 in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa.

Anneliese proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1949. She was quick to learn the American way of life. She felt the people in Washta were friendly, open-hearted and the town of Washta had a big celebration when she and Lowell came back there to live after WW II.

She was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church, a German Club, she had been head of the Senior Citizen Meals, and belonged to the Washta Cemetery Association, American Legion Auxiliary and had been a 4-H helper. She was an avid cook, baker, crafter, gardener, and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She had been a resident of Huxley, Iowa the past six years and prior to this had lived in Washta for 66 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell on October 27, 1987, brothers Herman and Gunther, and a grandson Jeffery Lowell Olson.

She is survived by her two children: Anna Lee (Ralph) Olson of Ankeny, Iowa; Josef (Rose) Jenkins of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren: Ryan (Andi) Olson of Ames, Iowa; Sally (Zach) Weiland of Blair, Nebraska; seven great grandchildren: Julia and Jozlynn Branson, Jada Ordal, Milo Weiland, Rori, Tyler, and Rowan Olson.
