Obituary

ARLEN H. TUCKER, 88, of Washta, Iowa, passed away Friday afternoon, June 7, 2013, in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta with military rites by the Washta American Legion and the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Arlen was born on March 25, 1925 in Cherokee, Iowa to Clarence & Helen (Small) Tucker. He grew up on a farm east of Washta and graduated from Washta High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and served 2 ½ years with two years overseas in Italy, France and Germany, being discharged on January 13, 1946. He was married to Donna Burns on May 16, 1947 at Des Moines, Iowa. Following the war, he went to work for the Ford Motor Co. in Des Moines for 9 ½ years and then for Wilson Trailer Co. in Sioux City for 18 years; and for Simonsen Mfg. in Quimby for 14 years, retiring in May of 1990. Arlen was a longtime member of the Washta United Methodist Church, serving on several committees over the years and had served on the Washta City Council for 20 years. He was a member of the Washta Senior Citizens, the Neighborhood Card Club and the American Legion at Washta. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, traveling, hunting and especially taking the grandkids fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Albert Tucker and his wife Helen of Sioux City and a sister Marylou Roberson of Mountain Home, Ark.

He is survived by his wife Donna; a daughter Christine Jorgensen and her husband Larry of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; a son Raymond Tucker and his wife Kathy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; six grandchildren: Brent, Kaylin and Carly Tucker, Kari Jorgensen Wadsworth and her husband Fidell, Kim Jorgensen Krantz and her husband Kirk, and Greg Jorgensen; four great grandchildren: Caleb and Brooke Wadsworth, Breann and Abby Krantz; a brother-in-law Dick Roberson of Mountain Home, Ark.
