ARLENE E. HOLLER, 89, of Spencer, Iowa and former longtime Linn Grove area resident passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9th,at 10:30 a.m. at the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Pastor Brian Janssen will officiate.
Burial will be in Barnes Township Cemetery at Linn Grove, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the Church. Arlene was born April 6, 1920 on the family farm near Washta, Iowa to Frank and Isabelle (Carney) Noble. She was from a family of 12 children with two dying in infancy. She attended school in Washta, graduating in 1938. She was married to Ewald "Nick" Holler on October 12, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple had lived on farms near Correctionville, Washta, Alta and purchased their own farm near Linn Grove in 1956. They farmed this for many years, retiring and moving to town in 1979. Arlene had also worked at the hot lunch program at Sioux Valley Community Schools in Linn Grove for 8 years. She moved to Spencer in 1999 and entered St. Luke Lutheran Home in November of 2008. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, R.P.W., and the Linn Grove Woman's Club. Her greatest love was her family. She also enjoyed reading, especially Christian novels, gardening, flowers and making quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on October 2, 1989, a son Larry in 1941, a daughter Nancy Maaland in 2006, nine brothers Mervin, Merle, Gerald, Florian, Faye, Harley, Dale, Purl, and Duane; one sister Ione, and a son-in-law Ron Dunkelberger.

She is survived by four children: Beverly Dunkelberger of Spencer, Iowa; Shirleen Waggoner and her husband Charles of Chesapeake, Virginia; David Holler and his wife Julie of Greenville, Iowa; Denise Jurgensen and her husband Randy of Linn Grove, Iowa; a son-in-law Dennis Maaland of Everly, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; one brother Milo Noble and his wife Alice of Cherokee, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
