Obituary

ARLENE J. PINKERTON, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, October 30, 2009 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4th, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Missy Brown will officiate. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Quimby Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Arlene was born on August 8, 1919 in Rock Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Earl M. & Lulu (Faust) Bugh. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1936. She attended Nebraska State Teacher's College, now Wayne State College at Wayne, Nebraska and received her Teaching Certificate in August of 1946. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado in August of 1953. Arlene furthered her education and received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota in August of 1957. She had taught school for a few years in the Sioux City Public School System and had also taught school in Marcus, Iowa. She was married to Ross C. Pinkerton on September 4, 1960 at Cherokee, Iowa. She retired from teaching at this time and became a homemaker, raising her family. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. She was also a member of Eastern Star and a former 4-H member. Arlene enjoyed sewing, reading, dancing in her early years with her husband, and loved the time she spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ross on May 14, 2009, two brothers Robert and Dale Bugh.

She is survived by her two sons: Ed Pinkerton and his wife Lois; James Pinkerton and his wife Tracy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
