Obituary

GEORGE ARNOLD "ARNIE" DOBSON, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of Cleghorn, Iowa passed away Sunday afternoon, August 22, 2010 in the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 26th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Dr. Delmar Carlson and Pastor Homer Dobson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be military rites at graveside by the Cleghorn American Legion and L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the VFW. There will be no visitation. Arnold was born April 29, 1923 at Cleghorn, Iowa to George and Edna (Slaubaugh) Dobson. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army in the Pacific. He was married to Irene Ludvigson on March 14, 1946 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He operated a blacksmith shop in Cleghorn for 15 years and then was a rural mail carrier in the Cleghorn area for 28 years, retiring in January of 1988. The couple lived in Cleghorn most of his life, moving to Cherokee in 2006. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a 60 year member of the Cleghorn Lions Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby LaDonna at birth, a brother John Dobson, a brother-in-law Joseph Sins, and a nephew Gary Dobson.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; one son and one daughter: Larry Dobson and his wife Kyra of Peoria, Arizona; Diane Kurtz and her husband Michael of Clarinda, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; a sister Evangeline Sins of Cherokee, Iowa; two brothers: Homer Dobson and his wife Betty of Tracy, Minnesota; Vaughn Dobson and his wife Louise of Sun City, Arizona; a sister-in-law Darlene Dobson of Cherokee, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
