Obituary

AUDREY M. SIEH, 82, formerly of Paullina, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at her home in Ames, Iowa where she had lived since 2000 with her son Barry. Audrey died from complication of her lungs.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Brien-Liberty Cemetery at Calumet, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Audrey was born on June 3, 1927 in Barry South Wales,UK. to Robert & Millicent (Prichard) Hartery She graduated from High School and went on to Business School and graduated. She then worked for a Shipping Yard in Cardiff South Wales. She met her future husband during WW II and after the war she came to America. She was married to Claudius Sieh on December 3, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa. She held many different jobs in her life. When they were first married they lived on a farm near Calumet where their first two children, Robert & Claudia were born. They moved to Sanborn in the early 1950's. At this time Audrey worked in Hartley candelling eggs and also a short time as a waitress at J's Café in Sanborn. While living in Sanborn her third child Sharon and her fourth child Barry were born. In the early sixties they moved to Gaza where they lived for a couple of years and then moved to Paullina in 1962. Audrey worked for 15 years at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute as a Charge Aid for the North side, mainly working on North 3. Her next job was working in Orange City and Marcus for K-Products for several years. After retirement, she went to work for Green Thumb and held a few jobs with them. She also worked at the Paullina Community School Library and also for many years she worked at the Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation with R.J. Baker. Audrey loved anything to do with ISU. One of her favorite things was going to all the different games on campus with her son. She enjoyed mystery books, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Bingo was one of her favorite things to do, until her health failed. Her grandchildren meant a lot to her and she enjoyed the time she spent with them. Audrey had a kitty that was her very faithful companion that kept her company at all times.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Claudius, a daughter Sharon Kay Johnson, a daughter-in-law Maurine Sieh; three sisters Edwina Bamber, Frances Kiddie and Margret Williams; three sisters-in-law Elnora Hoffman, Catherine Rhein and Luella Tesch; five brothers-in-law Franz Sieh, Kurt Hoffman, George Bamber, George Williams and Bill Kiddie.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and one daughter: Robert Sieh of Gilbert, Iowa; Barry Sieh of Ames, Iowa; Claudia Brown and her husband David of Cherokee, Iowa; three granddaughters: Andrea McIrvin and her husband Wayne of Paullina, Iowa; Melinda Brown of Staunton, Virginia; Jennifer Martin and her husband Chris of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandsons: Dr. Robert Sieh, DPT of Des Moines, Iowa and Gregory Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; one great grandson Jack McIrvin of Paullina, Iowa; one brother Robert Hartery and his wife Dorothy of Barry South Wales, UK; her sister Dorothy Rees and her husband Lionel of Barry South Wales, UK; also many nieces and nephews from Wales as well as the United States.
