BARBARA L. (JONES) BROWNMILLER, 85, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, October 21, 2015 at her home in Spencer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26th, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Spencer, Iowa. Rev. Douglas Burton will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Spencer with the family present at that time. Barbara Jones, the daughter of Kenneth & Margaret (Hall) Jones was born November 17, 1929 in Afton Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended Country School in Afton Township and later graduated from Aurelia High School in 1947. At the age of twelve, she made a confession, taking Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in the Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa.

Barbara met the love of her life, Harland Brownmiller in her Dad's "hay field". Harland came to bale hay, then came calling soon after. They were married on November 22, 1947 in the Church of Christ in Cherokee. Their faith and family were very important to them. They started farming in 1948 in the Cherokee area, then moved to the Rossie area in March of 1959 until 1968, when they moved to Spencer. She had always been interested in business, accounting, etc. She attended income tax schooling and went to work for Les & Eunice Jacobsen in their H&R Block franchise in Spencer. They were great to work for. She later worked for Norman K. Pixler, CPA. She retired in 1998. Barbara was also a caregiver to various different individuals over the years.

Throughout the years Harland and Barbara had many blessings. Their faith in the Lord has always been very strong and a huge factor in all they did. She was very active in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Spencer. She was a Deacon, Elder and belonged to the Disciples Women's Group and served on many committees. She received the Elder Emeritus from her church on January 20, 2013. What an honor for her. She was a member of D.A.R., Graham International Car Club, Great Lakes Antique Car Club and the Leisure Living Camping Group. She enjoyed the Jones family reunions over the past 25 years, traveling across this great country, to Japan and Italy, going down the road in the 1930 Graham or off to Leisure Living Camping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother George W. Jones, a sister M. Kathleen Jones, and a grandson C. Michael Brownmiller.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years Harland of Spencer, Iowa; her four children: Curtis (Patricia) Brownmiller of Richardson, Texas; Jeffery (Myriam) Brownmiller of Kingman, Arizona; Connie (Daniel) Hollander of Spencer, Iowa; Julie (Edward) Kinsley of Spencer, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, several special Step-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Spencer Hospital Staff, Community Health Staff, and the Abben Cancer Staff for the great care given to Barbara the last several years.
