BETTY J. BIERMAN, 78, of Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of rural Pierson, Iowa passed away Sunday evening, May 31, 2009, in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church at rural Marcus, Iowa. Pastor Leroy Riemer and Vicar Mark Chepulis will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at

Betty was born November 3, 1930 in rural Sutherland, Iowa to William and Caroline Louise (Trierweiler) Ginger. She graduated from Sutherland High School as co-valedictorian in 1949. She was married to Junior Bierman on November 6, 1951 at Vermillion, South Dakota. She had lived in Cherokee since 1998, prior to this on a farm in Tilden Township, rural Pierson, Iowa and was originally from the Sutherland area. She had worked in the telephone office, the ice cream shop, was a farm wife and most recently worked for her daughter at Cherokee Hearing Aid and Hinkhouse Hearing, retiring May 28, 2005. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. She enjoyed knitting, was a great baker, a member of a card club, the Walther League, time spent with her grandchildren and doing family history.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy Ginger, 4 sisters Lorene "Cutie" Bierman, Evelyn Matzdorf, Dorothy Peters, and Louise "Babe" Steuck.

She is survived by her husband, Junior, and her five children: Darwin Bierman and his wife Roxy of Creston, Iowa; Douglas Bierman and his wife Pat of Eldridge, Iowa; Mark Bierman of Pittsfield, Illinois; Penny Bierman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Peggy Hinkhouse and her husband Rich of Cherokee, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Justin (Molly) Bierman, Holly & Thomas Bierman, Jarret (Tena) Bierman, Brooke Bierman, Linzi & Lee Bierman, Sam & Mikki Hinkhouse; 4 great grandchildren: Jacob & William Bierman, Trinity Bierman and Macie Gum; sisters-in-law: Marion Rietsma of Primghar, Iowa; Dorris Kintigh of Storm Lake, Iowa; Florence Richey of McComb, Illinois; Ralph Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Mary Bierman of Cherokee, Iowa; Gwen Bierman of Kingsley, Iowa; brother-in-law Ralph Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
