BETTY GRONEMEYER, age 84, left us to join the Lord on April 25, 2013, at the Lakes Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was a breast cancer survivor.
Memorial services will be held Friday, May 3rd , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. Betty was born on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota on June 20, 1928, the daughter of Orlen and Tena (Jager) Liston. They moved to Hawarden, Iowa, where she attended the Hawarden schools. She worked at Central Café in Hawarden until her marriage to Lloyd Gronemeyer on March 20, 1947. They moved to Cherokee, Iowa, where they lived until 1984, when they moved to their home in Arnolds Park, Iowa.
In Cherokee, she worked at J.C. Penney for many years. After moving to Arnolds Park, she was employed at Pamida. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and being able to watch her grandchildren grow up.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, 9 brothers; Lee Liston, Lloyd Liston, Daryl Liston, Howard Liston, Wesley Liston, Duane Liston, Lawrence Liston, James Liston and Roger Liston and 1 sister, Vivian Finch.
Betty is survived by her son, Larry Gronemeyer and his wife, Karen, of Fort Dodge, Iowa and her daughter, Jacque Lambert and her husband, Jim, of Jackson, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren: Brett Gronemeyer of Milford, Iowa, Cary Gronemeyer and his wife, Aunna, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kristin Butko and her husband, Joe, of North Port, Florida; Matt Wenck and his wife, Tamara, of Fort Collins, Colorado; Holly Bogue and her husband, Steve, of Clarksville, Tennessee; Josh Wenck and his wife, Breanna of Fort Collins, Colorado; 1 step-granddaughter, Laural Everist-Lambert, of Cincinnati, Ohio; also 15 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Myra Heuer and Neva Busch, both of Rock Valley, Iowa, Darlene Rummel of Sioux City, Iowa and Cindy McKee of Hawarden, Iowa; 2 brothers, Norman Liston of St. Paul, Minnesota and Dick Liston of Hawarden, Iowa.
