BETTY J. ZWICK, 90, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 in the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. Pastor Missy Brown will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 29th from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Betty was born on May 28, 1921 to Robert & Myrna (Allen) Gates at Cherokee, Iowa. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1938. After graduation, she attended Cedar Falls College for one year. She was united in marriage on June 10, 1943 to Raymond Zwick at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Betty taught rural school in Afton Township for 5 years and worked as an aide at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia for 11 years. She was a member of Farm Bureau for 68 years, Afton Community Club for 65 years, 50 year member of Rebekah Lodge in Cherokee and Aurelia, First United Methodist Church in Aurelia and was past president of the United Methodist Women. In 1994, the Zwick family farm was recognized as a century farm while Betty was still living there.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Raymond in 1989.
Betty is survived by her two children: Ginny Anderson and her husband Gary of Aurelia, Iowa; Bill Zwick of Des Moines, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Kim (Bill) Luetkeman of Aurelia, Iowa; Kory (Tina) Anderson of Malvern, Iowa; Angela (Chris) Trotta of O'Fallon, Missouri; Heidi Zwick of Des Moines, Iowa; Erin (Dustin) Hemesath of Des Moines, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren: Brooke, Gus, Ryleigh, Lucas, Tyler, Abigail, Andrew and Makayla; siblings: Joan (Neville) Lucas of Cherokee, Iowa & Roberta (Darrell) Rapp of St. Cloud, Minnesota
