Beverly was the youngest of six children of Pearl Lynn and Myrtle (Gleason) Vannatta, born on October 31, 1930 at home in Cherokee, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1949 and she lived all of her life in Cherokee.
Bev met the love of her life, Harold Heschke, at the roller skating rink in Storm Lake. They were married on December 19, 1949 in Storm Lake, Iowa and were blessed with 71 years together. They brought into this world four children, Larry, Pam, Duane, and Twyla. Bev loved to roller skate and dance. Bev and Harold taught their children and grandchildren to roller skate. They roller skated into their late 70's, spending time with their skating friends and the Vannatta family members. Many times, they would move the dining room table so they could dance and encouraged the kids to join in. She enjoyed cooking, embroidering, and knitting.
She worked at Main's Market, JC Penney, and WF Woolworth before starting her family. She was a "stay at home Mom" until the oldest three were in high school, then she worked at Ben Franklin, retiring in 1980.
She served as officers on the American Legion, Esther Circle and Christian Homemakers at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee.
Her family was very important to her. She was always there to lend a helping hand and to encourage everyone to be the best person they could be with good work ethic, courtesy, and laughter. Not a day went by she wasn't thinking or praying for each one, up to the time of her unexpected passing.
She leaves behind her children, Larry(jean) Heschke of Cherokee, Iowa, Pam (Mike) Cronin of Cleghorn, Iowa, Duane Heschke of Aurelia, Iowa, and Twyla (Kevin) Schmillen of Cherokee, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Lane (Barb) Jones of Rembrandt, Iowa, Jeanna (Gabe) Morgan of Merrill, Iowa, Kim (Nate) Galles of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Angela Meredith of Lake View, Iowa, Kris (Luke) Fleener of Duncombe, Iowa, Kelly (Jeff) Price of Chandler, Arizona, Kathy (Mike) Leach of Cherokee, Iowa, Dustin (Holly) Schmillen of Cherokee, Iowa, Tara (Aaron) Junker of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Roger (Carrie) Howard of Ankeny, Iowa, Becky McGee of Fonda, Iowa, Ronda Howard of Sioux City, Iowa, Ray (Lacey) Howard of Tennessee, Renee (Lonny) Stull of Storm Lake; 40 great grandchildren; sister : Darlene Patten of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Linda Vannatta of Cherokee, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
