Obituary

BEVERLY  JOAN  NAFZIGER, 90, of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday morning, April 20, 2023 at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, Iowa.

Private family graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday morning June 17, 2023  at the Meriden Cemetery.  Bob Blair will officiate. There will be a come and go Celebration of Life for the public at the Cleghorn Christian Church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.  The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jo was born on August 30, 1932 to Ralph and Kathryn (Stratton) Stoneking.  She was united in marriage to Duane L. Nafziger of Cleghorn, Iowa on April 12, 1952 at Quimby, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Mark, Jeff, Kris and Kelli.

Jo had worked at the Cherokee Elevator, Montgomery Wards and as a bank teller at Cleghorn State Bank for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Cleghorn Christian Church.  She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Cleghorn Library Book Club and the Cherokee County Senior Citizens.

In her spare time, she liked reading and knitting. She was an avid card player, enjoyed her children's high school sports activities, was a lifelong supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball programs, and also enjoyed watching professional basketball and football. Go Hawkeyes!!

She was the glue to our family.  She played peacemaker when necessary and was the one to try to smooth things over.  She did this in her own quiet way.  Jo loved a good joke and liked to laugh.  When the family would be together, she never wanted to go to bed if we were still chatting.  She never wanted to "miss anything".

Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Duane in 2006, two brothers Donald and George Stoneking, and two sisters Ethel Foss and Beth Vesgaard.

She is survived by her four children, Mark (Karen) Nafziger of Baltimore, Maryland; Jeff (Susan) Nafziger of Payson, Arizona; Kris (Deb) Nafziger of Gettysburg, South Dakota;  Kelli Nafziger of Chandler, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; her siblings: Charles Stoneking of Hartley, Iowa; Charlene Lubben-Pearse (David) of Aurelia, Iowa.
