Obituary

BONNIE MAE RAPER, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Monday July 15, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa.  Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Bonnie was born on May 7, 1932 to Charles and Lillian (Wunschel)  Galvin in Cherokee County, Iowa.  She graduated from Alta High School in 1950.  She had previously attended country schools and Aurelia School.    Bonnie was united in marriage to Robert F. Lockwood on June 21, 1950 at Cherokee, Iowa. To this union she was blessed with 5 children, Kathy, Doug, Craig, Tim, and Tammy.

She was later married to Paul Raper on January 26, 1980 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa.  They lived on a farm near Larrabee and then moved to Cherokee.  She was a homemaker and caregiver for the kids and later she worked at Berk's Studio for 12 years and Casey's General Store for 12 years.

She loved spending time with her family, reading, listening to music, doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, embroidery, baking, and walking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Raper, precious daughter and her husband Kathy (Kyle) Reeves, sisters Alice Peterson, Betty Erickson, Deloris Brisbois, and Jean Neville, brothers Charles Galvin Jr., Paul Galvin, Don Galvin, and Larry Galvin, brothers-in-laws Dubs Peterson, Marlyn Erickson, Loren Neville,  Stan Peterson, Lester Raper, John Raper, and Charles Raper, sisters-in-law Tena Mae Galvin, Lorraine Galvin, Imogene Galvin, Arlina Davis, and Louise Gibson.

Bonnie will lovingly be remembered by her children, Doug and Daryla Lockwood of Rembrandt, Iowa, Craig and Lorrie Lockwood of Cherokee, Iowa, Tim and Jennifer Lockwood of Cherokee, Iowa, and Tammy and Mark Wurth of Remsen, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; siblings Bob (Ardis) Galvin of Aurelia, Iowa, Garold (Ila)Galvin of Alta, Iowa, Leland Galvin of Aurelia, Iowa, Pat Peterson of Aurelia, Iowa, Carol (Bernard) Peterson of Aurelia, Iowa, and Sandy (John) Zimmerman of Sac City, Iowa; sisters-in-law Sharon Galvin and Jennie (Erwin) Mogensen of Cleghorn, Iowa ; also numerous nieces and nephews.
