CARL SIMMONS, 79 of rural Danbury, Iowa, passed away Friday evening June 20, 2008 in the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa. Father Terry Roeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa with a Vigil Wake Service at 7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from

Carl was born on December 21, 1928 at Anthon, Iowa to Chris & Edna (Ladwig) Simmons. He grew up in the Anthon area and the family moved to Quimby, Iowa in 1939 where he lived until 1952. He served six years in the Iowa National Guard being honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was married to Leona Murray on February 2, 1953 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Carl farmed southeast of Danbury from 1952 until his retirement in 1999. Carl took great pride in keeping his lawn mowed, raising his garden and feeding his cats. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. He enjoyed playing euchre, fishing, hunting, and liked dancing to the old music.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Michael Moser.
He is survived by his wife Leona, his five children: Carlene Hamann and her husband Lynn of Danbury, Iowa; Scott Simmons and his wife Shari of Danbury, Iowa; Barbara Moser and her husband Douglas of Danbury, Iowa; Kevin Simmons and his wife Linda of Mapleton, Iowa; Wesley Simmons of Sioux City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; one sister: Opal Wheeler and her husband Donald of Nuevo, California.
