CAROL L. BROWN, 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 21st, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Missy Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Carol was born January 6, 1925 at Quimby, Iowa to Abe & Ethel (Eubank) Glidewell. She was baptized in the Church of Christ in Cherokee and later transferred to the Methodist Church in Quimby, where she taught Sunday school. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1942 and received a trophy for sportsmanship. She was married to Rex Brown on October 1, 1943 at South Sioux City, Nebraska. She had worked at Woolworth's and the Farmers Coop Elevator in Cherokee. After retiring, moved to Glenwood, Minnesota on the lake where she worked for the Ben Franklin store. The couple eventually moved to Aurelia and most recently Storm Lake for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Aurelia, Iowa. Carol spent most of her leisure time walking and shopping. She enjoyed attending the grandchildren's many events. She thoroughly enjoyed being with her family and many visits she had with her "condo" friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex on January 14, 2007, brother Garland in infancy, brother and sister-in-law Boyd and Edna Glidewell, sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Marvin Mann and sister-in-law Faye Robinson.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Bonnie & Butch Engel of Newell, Iowa; Janene & David Kissinger of Bryan, Texas; step-daughter Mary Jo & Stan McKenzie of Rogers, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren.
