CELESTINE "SALLY" WARBURTON, 84, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Sally was born September 5, 1925 at Washta, Iowa to Claude and Emma (Mahoney) Hollingshead. She graduated from Quimby High school in 1943. She received her nursing degree from Providence Hospital of Nursing in Everett, Washington. She was married to Marvin Warburton on December 8, 1946 at Cleghorn, Iowa. The couple lived on farm south of Cleghorn for 10 years, on a farm south of Cherokee for 27 years; moving to Cherokee in 1987. Sally moved to Sioux Falls to be near her family in 2007. Sally had worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital in Everett Washington and was Charge Nurse in OB and Nursery at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for many years. She then worked as a nurse at Hilltop Care Center (now Careage Hills) until her retirement. At Hilltop Care Center, she was chosen as employee of the year. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and was involved in many church activities and social groups. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was an avid sports fan of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin on December 31, 2001, her brother Forrest Hollingshead and a sister Thelma Hollingshead.
She is survived by her three children: Sara Warburton of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dave Warburton of Earlham, Iowa; Lisa Lindgren and her husband Al of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; three sisters; Evie King of Newark, New Jersey; Berniece Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Beverly Pouliot of Arlington, Washington.
