Obituary

CHARLES E. "Chuck" CLARK, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, September 11, 2023 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  Masonic services will be held after the church service followed by military rites performed by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion outside the church.  The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. Chuck was born on October 3, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska to Ivan and Rowena (Branaman) Clark.  He graduated from Concord Schools in 1951.  He attended Wayne State College and graduated with his Master's Degree in Education.  He served in the United States Army from 1955 until 1957.

He was united in marriage to Joanne Rasmussen on August 9, 1959 at Ida Grove, Iowa.  Chuck taught at Washington High School in the Trades and Industry department until he opened Clark's Building Center in 1977.  He owned and operated the business until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed old antique cars, doing construction and working on their rental properties.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served on the church board in various positions.  Chuck served on the A.R.C. board.  He was a member of Cherokee Speculative Lodge #307 A.F. & A.M. and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, Cherokee Shrine Club and Cherokee Flying Carpets, Serpaci Car Club and Vintage Wheels.  Chuck served on the Western Iowa Tech Community College Advisory Council, Iowa State Extension Council and the Northwest Iowa Lumber Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Vandell, and his parents-in-law Hans and Helen Rasmussen.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Joanne of Cherokee, Iowa; children, Timothy Ivan Clark of Harlan, Iowa and Kelly Branaman Clark of Cherokee, Iowa; three nephews, Clark (Nancy) Vandell, Scott (Pat) Vandell, and Dan (Carol) Vandell; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Jerry) Clark of Cherokee, Iowa and Sandra (Richard) Martin of Tribune, Kansas; also several nieces and nephews.
