CHARLES. W. HILL, 95, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of rural Aurelia, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, December 2, 2010 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 7th, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Charles was born on November 14, 1915 to Henry & Sophie (Specht) Hill. He was united in marriage on December 11, 1935 to Mary Frances Barlow in Storm Lake, Iowa. He farmed in O'Brien County for a short time and then farmed south of Aurelia, Iowa for many years until he moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1967 to work for South Suburban Parks & Recreation. He retired in 1981 and relocated to El Dorado Springs, Missouri and returned to Iowa in 2005. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, El Dorado Springs Municipal Golf Course and also the Lions Club in El Dorado Springs. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, square dancing, trap shooting, and was active in church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2001, an infant daughter Marilyn, a brother Jim Hill, and three sisters: Eleanor Swenson, Arlene Jurgensen & Marjorie Rahbaugh.
He is survived by three sons: Jim Hill and his special friend Joyce Leckband of Paullina, Iowa, David Hill of Kenyon, Minnesota, and Duane Hill of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters: Carol Otto and her husband Leon of Centennial, Colorado and Dianne Lyons and her husband Roy of Middleburg, Florida; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
