Charles F. Prunty 84, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Sunday morning, April 11, 2021 at the Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberty Township Cemetery at Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please practice social distancing and masks will be required at the visitation and the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made in Chuck's name to Cherokee Regional Hospice, Cherokee Regional Medical Center, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Charles (Chuck) was born on October 17, 1936 at Marcus, Iowa to Lester and Helene (Hurd) Prunty. He attended Larrabee Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1954. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country until 1958. After his military service, Charles attended Buena Vista Collee and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962.
In 1963, Charles married Annabelle Ludvigson at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa. The couple later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Charles was employed as a meat salesman for Wilson Meat Company in Kansas City, Kansas. Together, they raised two children Timothy and Kimberly. The family relocated in 1969 to his family's farm outside Larrabee, Iowa. Chuck began farming and retired in 2018. He served on the Elevator Board in Larrabee for one term. Charles loved reading about the history of the Old West.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Helene Prunty; father-in-law Clarence Ludvigson and mother-in-law, LaVerna Ludvigson; brothers-in-law: Virgil and Kenneth Ludvigson; Howard McCoy; sisters-in-law: Suzanne Prunty, Mary Ann Fassler, Kathryn Ludvigson; nephew Leif Ludvigson.
Charles is survived by his wife Annabelle, son Timothy Prunty of Cherokee and daughter Kimberly Prunty of Oceanside, California. Charles is also survived by his sister Connie Prunty and brother Wayne Prunty both of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters-in-law Shirley McCoy of Cherokee and Kathleen Ludvigson of Washta, Iowa; brothers-in-law Franklin Ludvigson of Cherokee and James Fassler of Quimby, Iowa. Also, he is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and also great-great- nieces and nephews.
