CHARLES FRANCIS RASSEL, 80 of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away March 11, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 16th, at 10 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Liz Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Charles was born April 7, 1928 in Cherokee Co., Iowa, son of Frank A. & Fern (Peck) Rassel. Chuck was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church. He grew up in Iowa and graduated from high school there. He was married to Lorna Miller on April 7, 1947 in Cherokee County. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during the Korean War as a radio operator. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Iowa where he was a farmer and later owned and operated a trucking company, a bowling alley and later a grain elevator. He moved to Princeton, Missouri where he owned and operated a Western-Auto True Value Hardware Store for several years. He later moved to Wichita, Kansas where he worked in the hardware business. In Fall River, Kansas, he owned a liquor store. Lorna passed away in 1992. He was married to Florida Roz on March 17, 1993 in the Philippines. This marriage was blessed with two children. He moved to Camdenton, Missouri in 1995. While in the lake area, he worked for Carl's Supermarket, Black and Decker, Tools and More and most recently at Wal-Mart Super Center in Camdenton. He was a member of the AMVETS. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, video games and jigsaw puzzles. Earlier in life, he was a member of a pinochle card club. He enjoyed his children's sporting events. Chuck was a happy person and was always whistling. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and many accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lawrence and Floyd Rassel and a sister Mary Brownmiller.
He is survived by his wife, Florida, and seven children: Steven Rassel and his wife Romie of Blue Springs, Missouri; Randy Rassel and his wife Karen of Eldon, Missouri; Terrie Meier and her husband Roger of Haven, Kansas; Scott Rassel and his wife Sharon of Wichita, Kansas; Todd Rassel of Wichita, Kansas; Finessa Rassel and Aaron Rassel both at home; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne Rassel, Paul Rassel and Tom Rassel; two sisters Kathleen Johnson and Norma Bushman and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
