CHARLOTTE SIEGEL, 93, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 10th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a D.A.R. service on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Charlotte was born June 24, 1922 at Holstein, Iowa to John and Jeannie (Freeman) Butcher. She attended country school and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1939. She taught country school for 1 1/2 years and had worked in the school office in Long Beach, Calif. Charlotte was married to Don Siegel on September 1, 1946 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She had worked in the Cherokee Schools Hot lunch Program as a dietary aid many years and at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in the kitchen. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Charity Circle, D.A.R. and the D.A.V. She also belonged to the V.F.W. Auxiliary and had received the Gold Star Mother's Award. She enjoyed, walking, reading and time spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don in 1979, a son David in 1968, three brothers: Willis Butcher and his wife Annie, Eldon Butcher and Robert Butcher; one sister Gertrude Albers and her husband Art.
She is survived by two sons: Jim Siegel and his wife Sandy of Cherokee, Iowa; Chris Siegel and his wife Debra of Grimes, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Justin Siegel, Kirsten Siegel, Jesse Siegel, Ashley Bartlett and Alisha Siegel; 6 great grandchildren: Madison, Ashlan, Harper, Ryan, Grace and Jaxton; two sisters-in-law: Betty Butcher of Holstein, Iowa; Peg Hansen of Marcus, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
