Obituary

CLARENCE H. FESSLER JR., 84, of Larrabee, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Country Side Estates in Cherokee following a l0 month illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17th, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Clarence was born September 8, 1924 in Cherokee, Iowa to Clarence H. Fessler Sr. and Ada (Morton) Fessler. He graduated from Larrabee High school in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class from 1943 until 1946. In the Navy he served in the South Pacific and was involved in several invasions and also trained with the Navy Special Forces which was later known as the Navy Seals. He was married to Rosemary Jenkins on September 11, 1947 in Cherokee, Iowa. He worked as an auto body repairman for Peterson Motors in Cherokee for 30 years and owned and operated Fessler Body Shop in Cherokee for 13 years, retiring in 1986. He had lived in the Larrabee area most of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a life member of the V.F.W. and the Patrol Craft Sailors Association. Clarence enjoyed gardening and old time country music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Edna Johnson, Blanche Bredman, one brother Alfred Fessler and a son-in-law Dale Ervin.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, and three children: William Fessler of Spencer, Iowa; Linda Fessler of Longmont, Colorado; Betty Ervin of Primghar, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Lorrie Shilling and her special friend Harry Wallen of Sioux City, Iowa; Jason Shilling and his wife Angie of Primghar, Iowa; Julisa Fessler of Kansas City, Missouri; Blaine Fessler and his wife Cindy of Kansas City, Missouri; Ben Weins of Cherokee, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren.
