Clarence was born on August 31, 1936 to Sarah Frances (Mundy) and Harold Hohbach in Cherokee County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Marcus. He attended the Tilden country school south of Marcus.

He served in the National Guard in Minnesota from 1957 to 1960.

Clarence farmed with his father as a young man. After his marriage to Nancy Munch, December 27, 1959, in Chariton, he continued farming south of Marcus. They raised hogs and cattle and grew corn, oats and soybeans. He retired from farming in 2006, and he was always a farmer at heart.

Clarence and Nancy enjoyed snowmobiling with the Marcus Snowbirds, square dancing, golfing, volleyball and cards, particularly pinochle and canasta. In his younger years, Clarence enjoyed throwing darts on the Trinity Lutheran Church team. He later joined Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus.

For a few summers, Clarence drove a water truck for Jensen Construction as he enjoyed viewing the countryside. Clarence and Nancy moved into Marcus in 2006. They spent a lot of time traveling, seeing the sights and visiting friends. He especially enjoyed attending farm shows and seeing the antique equipment.

Clarence's pride and joy was his family: his wife Nancy of Marcus; daughter, Barbara married to Charles Lyon of Fairfax, Virginia; son, Brian married to Deanna (Hickman) of Paullina; along with his two grandsons, Garrett and his wife, Morgan (Wiemann) and Travis, both of Paullina. He loved watching his grandsons play in many sports and other activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings Mary Hohbach and Garland Hohbach.
