CLARK D. NIXON, 69, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday afternoon December 12, 2016 in Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15th, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Eric Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Clark was born on March 23, 1947 at Hamburg, Iowa to Monas and Myrtle (Sapp) Nixon. He graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1965. He was married to Rose Ruge on August 25, 1968. Clark and Rose renewed their vows to each other on December 31, 1987.
He began working in the Trades and Industries program through the State of Iowa on the Cherokee Mental Health Institute campus during high school. Clark worked his way up in the dietary department ending as Food Services Manager after 40 years of employment retiring in August 2004.
Clark loved spending time with his family and enjoying sporting events. There was never a season he was not cheering on his beloved teams. He will now be cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, Iowa Hawkeyes, Cherokee Braves, and Northwest Iowa Bulldogs in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roger Nixon, brother in law Bill Hoefler, nephew Chad Hoefler, brother-in-law David Ruge and an infant niece Brooke Goetzinger.
He is survived by his wife Rose; two sons: Michael (Jennifer) Nixon of Cherokee, Iowa and their children Zachary (Makenzie Steffens & Kailyn), Derek, Cooper, Anna, and Zoey; Steven Nixon of Cherokee, Iowa and his children Brianna and William; his siblings: Brian Nixon of Cherokee, Iowa; Karen (Mike) Goetzinger of Martin, South Dakota and their daughters Sara and Nicole; brother Byron Nixon of Sunnyvale, California; sister-in-law Edna (Havey) Batten of Cherokee, Iowa, brother-in-law Gary (Shirley) Ruge of Altoona, Iowa, and nephew Gary (Heather) Ruge and their children Conner and London of Runnells, Iowa, niece Jennifer Ruge of Des Moines, Iowa, sister in law Connie Ruge of Cherokee, Iowa.
