CLETUS E. ODLE, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Kathy Wicks and Dr. Delmar Carlson will officiate. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Meriden Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Cletus was born January 31, 1922 in Cherokee, Iowa to John and Elsie (Main) Odle. He attended country school and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Bernice Lindgren on May 1, 1945 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. This union was blessed with two daughters, Lynde and Susan. Cletus had worked in the shipyards in Alaska and then owned and operated a gas station in California from 1948 until 1953. The couple then moved to Iowa where they farmed for 42 years south of Cleghorn. Cletus retired in 1996 and moved to Cherokee. He had worked for the ASCS office doing crop measurement. He was instrumental in the development of the Low Rent Housing in Meriden and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing cards, having coffee with family and friends and spending time with family, especially the grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Dorrine Schleef and Evelyn Letsche and one niece Kim Wolcott.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, and two daughters; Lynde Lundquist and her husband Gary of Cherokee, Iowa; Susan Erickson of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; Jeff (Lisa) Lundquist and their children Amber and Brady; David (Grace) Lundquist and their children Josh and Jen; Dan (Julie) Erickson and their son Terry (Kathy) and their daughter Angel; Cheryl (Jared) Hertzke and their children Shayla, Jesse and Katie; Holly (Neal) Galles and their children Mitch and Brad; two sisters; Marcella Blankenbaker and her husband Darrell of Cherokee, Iowa; Virginia Wolcott and her husband James of Cherokee, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Bush of Cherokee, Iowa; Phyllis Lindgren of Meriden, Iowa and Marguerite Osterling of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
