Obituary

Colene Frances Green, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013 at a care center in Eureka, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday, February 22nd from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee and on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time with the family present at that time. Colene was born on December 1, 1921 to Glenn and Jane (Rowlett) Rowland at their family home near Mound City, Missouri. Following her graduation from Mound City High School in 1939, Colene attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville, Missouri. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree in 1943, she accepted a position at Cleghorn High School as a home economics teacher.
Colene Rowland was married to Burl Green on August 11, 1946 at Mound City, Missouri. The couple made their home north of Cleghorn where they lived for more than 50 years, raising their six children on the family farm. Colene enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished homemaker and cook. Colene was a substitute teacher in the Meriden-Cleghorn School system for many years. Colene was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cherokee, Iowa and former longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa. With always a kind word and a generous spirit, she treasured her family, neighbors and friends in her community.
Her husband of 62 years, Burl Green, died August 23, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Robert Lee, a son Dennis Green, a daughter Linda Green, a grandson Eric Green, brothers Ralph "Cork" Rowland, Glenn "Slats" Rowland and his wife Thelma, brothers and sisters by marriage Vernon and Ester Green, Melvin and Margaret Green, Vesta and Noel Courtright, Edgar and Doris Roseen and Roy Nelson.

Colene leaves a loving family to celebrate her life including two sons and two daughters, Terry Green and his wife Jean of Guttenberg, IA, Morey Green and his wife Clarice of Hot Springs, AR, Sue Stuhr and her husband Bob of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Annette Raver and her husband Jeff of Eureka, IL, 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Lois Jean Siekmann and her husband Frank of Mound City, MO, and Margaret Ann Morgan and her husband Richard of Emerson, IA, sisters and brothers by marriage Betty (Rowland) Fulton of Port Charlotte, FL, Dale and Dorothy Green of Estherville, IA, Beverly Nelson of Cherokee, IA and also many nieces and nephews.
