Obituary

COLLENE  MAE  DALTON , 83, of Washta, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held Saturday October 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .

Collene was born February 9, 1939 in Kingsley IA to Walter "Shorty" and Rose (Hoops) Bride. She is a 1957 graduate of the Kingsley Bombers, where she served as drum majorette for the marching band. She was very proud of this as the band had won countless contests in the area at that time.

She married Edward L. Dalton on June 29, 1957 at St Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, IA. Over the years the couple lived in Rock Rapids, Le Mars, and Colorado before settling back in the Kingsley-Pierson area to raise their family. In 1988, Collene left her CNA job of 17 years to pursue managing the South Forty restaurant in Washta, Iowa and eventually relocating the family there also. This led her to the opportunity to be her own boss when she opened her bar The Hole in the Wall, in Washta.

In retirement Collene found her time being spent babysitting the grandchildren. She was also very talented making silk flower arrangements and was commissioned for many weddings. She was a very strong and sound minded soul. Often giving her opinion whether you wanted it or not. But most of the time she was right on the money with her advice. Many will remember her as "Irish" or "Mom".

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sons; Michael, Dale & Donnie, two daughters, Jacklyn & Denise; one grandson, Dustin; one daughter-in-law, Teresa and a son-in-law, Tyson Stevenson.

She is survived by significant other Larry Long of Washta; two sons, Doug (Tammy) of Cherokee and  Danny (Michelle) of Aurelia; one daughter, Debie Stevenson of Quimby; a brother Denny (MaryLou) Bride of Spring Hill, Florida and sister, Daralis (Paul) Johns of Colorado Springs Colorado; five grandsons, Chris Stoltenberg, Jesse Dalton, Devin (Megan) Moon, Dylan (Kelsi) Dalton and Tejay (Emily) Stevenson; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sisemore and Carre (Brekken) Roberts.
