CONSTANCE K. "CONNIE" BENSON , 83, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, November 23, 2020 in the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 28 th , at 2 p.m. at the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, November 27 th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. The visitation will be limited to 15 people at a time in the funeral home. Please practice social distancing and masks will be required at the visitation and the graveside service. Connie was born on August 3, 1937 at Cherokee, Iowa to Robert "Frank" & Helen (Crippen) Dreyer. She attended Larrabee Schools and graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1956. Connie was married to Vernon "Pete" Benson on May 8, 1959 at Cherokee, Iowa. She had worked at Swanson's Warehouse in the office for many years and then at Drug Town and later Hy-Vee Drug Store, retiring in July of 2013.
Connie was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. She belonged to the Happy Hookers (crochet club), Neighborhood Birthday Club, had served on various boards at the church and was a Sunday School teacher for 32 years.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, word puzzles, crafts, decorating for the holidays, watching the game show network and loved watching The Voice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon "Pete" Benson in 1981, son Steven Benson, sisters Dorothy (Hank) Phipps and Peggy Dreyer, brother Ronald Dreyer, great grandchild Ashlynn McDonald, brother in laws Henry Phipps, John Benson, Walt Benson, Robert Benson, Harold "Butch" Benson, Kenny Bern, William Griffin, and Carl Benson, sister in laws Mary Francks, Dorothy Griffin, Olga Bern, Norma Hanson, Gladys Benson, Delores Benson, Laverne Magnussen, and Joan Benson.
She is survived by her two children: Jeff Benson of Cherokee, Iowa; Jenni (Jon) Snyder of Schaller, Iowa; a step-daughter: Jean (David) Vannatta of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Ashley (Andrew) Winter, Alex Benson, Jamie (Lisa) McDonald, Matt (Meggan) McDonald, Jason (Tiffney) McDonald; 7 great grandchildren: Arleigh Winter, Kaleb (Ashley), Kylan, Kage, Kora, Declyn, and Brynlee McDonald; she will be dearly missed by her dog Sadie and cat Ivy.
