CRYSTAL L. (BORER) SHANKLES, 46, of Derby, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, May 16, 2008 in the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a 16 year battle with cancer.



Memorial services will be held on Wednesday evening, May 21, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church in Washta, Iowa. Pastor Charles Wolff of Sioux City, Iowa will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. Crystal's remains were cremated and there will be no visitation. Online condolences can be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com



Crystal was born on November 14, 1961 at Cherokee, Iowa to Stephen & Sandra (Camarigg) Borer. She was married to John Shankles on July 17, 2001 at Wichita, Kansas. She had lived in Derby, Kansas the past 3 years and prior to this in Wichita, Kansas for 7 years. She had worked as a Home Health Aide while in Kansas. Crystal had three great loves in her life, her husband, John, her son Brian and her granddaughter Caralinn. Spending time with them brought her the greatest joy. She also enjoyed doing needlepoint and traveling.



She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Bob Camarigg, paternal grandfather and a niece Mariah Jordan.



She is survived by her husband John; one son Brian Myers and his wife Jill of Lawton, Iowa; one step-son Matthew Shankles of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her mother Sandra Domina and her husband Don of Washta, Iowa; her father Stephen Borer and his wife Betty of Nebraska City, Nebraska; one granddaughter Caralinn Myers; 4 sisters: Cammy Vondrak of Pierson, Iowa; Sheila Beaumier and her husband John of Washta, Iowa; Carla Murphy of Marcus, Iowa; Shari Orr and her husband John of Portland, Oregon; 2 half-brothers: Casey Borer and his wife Lydia of Nebraska City, Nebraska; Cody Borer and his wife Terza of Nebraska City, Nebraska; her maternal grandmother Betty Camarigg of Washta, Iowa; her paternal grandmother Fawn Borer of Gowrie, Iowa, also many nieces and nephews.
