CYNTHIA L. “CINDY” HASELHOFF, 79, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, surrounded by loved ones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. There will be a rosary service held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 followed by visitation with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home -Greenwood-Schubert Chapel, located at 216 S. 2nd Street in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be held in the Mary Hill Cemetery . Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Cindy was born on July 28, 1946 at Cherokee, Iowa to Emil and Helen (Bush) Mendt. She was the oldest of 10 children. She attended Mary Hill School and later graduated from Cleghorn High School. She attended the University of Northern Iowa Teacher’s College. She was united in marriage on September 4, 1965 to Robert Haselhoff, together they were blessed with six children.
Cindy stayed busy raising the six children while also doing the bookwork for her husband’s business, Haselhoff Machine Shop for 30 years. She also worked at Casey’s in Aurelia, making pizzas and also working the register. She volunteered in her children’s classrooms and later worked as a preschool aide for HeadStart in Storm Lake and then at Alta Schools, where she worked as a cook, secretary and filled in as a paraeducator when needed.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa. She was active with the Catholic Daughters group.
In her free time, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, working on puzzles, and playing ball with the dog. She liked watching NASCAR races or rodeos on television, and she took great pride in keeping up with her grandchildren’s many activities. Cindy was a phenomenal cook, known for preparing meals that her family especially loved. She and Bob cherished the quiet moments together at home, whether watching the stars, feeding birds and squirrels, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She also had a special fondness for a good Iowa snowstorm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mildred and Arnold Haselhoff and brothers-in-law Don Haselhoff, Jim Haselhoff, and Steve Volkert.
Cindy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years Robert Haselhoff of Aurelia, Iowa; six children, John (Kimberly) Haselhoff of Seminole, Florida, Gwen (Randy) Christianson of Britt, Iowa, Kate Haselhoff of Alta, Iowa, Andy (Heidi) Haselhoff of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, Colleen (Sean) Busch of Alliance, Nebraska and Susanne (Jeff) Knutsen of DeWitt, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild; siblings Patricia (Jim) Quinn of Spencer, Iowa, Sue (Mick) Bakker of Cherokee, Iowa, Marilyn Trout of Lincoln, Nebraska, Maria Bowen of Aurelia, Iowa, Guy (Kathy) Mendt of Thornton, Colorado, Heidi (Mark) Anderson of Freedom, Oklahoma, Bernadette (Mike) Sandhoefner of Omaha, Nebraska, Denise Mendt of Cherokee, Iowa, and Laura (Ronnie) Benefiel of Cleghorn, Iowa; sisters-in-law Jean Haselhoff of Cherokee, Iowa, and Mary Volkert of Holstein, Iowa; brothers-in-law Roger (Beckley) Haselhoff of Patsy Junction, Arizona, and Ken (Mary) Haselhoff of Quimby, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
