Obituary

DALE L. CLINE , 86 of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday evening, September 11, 2020 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25 th , at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 24 th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The Boothby Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com Social distancing guidelines will be in place and masks will be required for the funeral and the visitation. For those unable to attend the funeral, it will be livestreamed on the Boothby Funeral Home website with the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions.

Dale was born July 10, 1934 at Cherokee, Iowa to Glenn & Phoebe (Pitts) Cline. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1953, where he participated in sports and choir. He was married to Caryl Lee Kreykes on July 17, 1955 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

Dale was a trained meat cutter and managed meat markets for 13 years. He and his wife moved around during this time living in several towns in the area, including Newell, Storm Lake, Holstein, Ida Grove and Cherokee. When Wilson Foods opened up in Cherokee, he started work on September 20, 1965 and retired in July of 1999 at the age of 65.

Dale was gifted as a child with a beautiful voice. He was a soloist and sang in choirs for many years participating in Cherokee Community Theatre, Cherokee Men's Chorus and sang for 70 years in church choirs.

He was actively involved in his church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He served on the church council, was a member of the building and float committees, and was a member of the church choir and bell choirs.

Dale was involved in the Good Times Place Senior Center playing in several card clubs. He loved playing cards, scroll sawing, playing steel guitar, gardening, jig saw puzzles, and coloring on his Nook. He was a great reader and loved his Westerns. He loved watching football; playing it and watching it. He also loved traveling with his family. He traveled to all fifty states and most National Parks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Ardis Kreykes; six brothers, Clarence, Ray, Kenneth, Robert, Donald and Lloyd Cline; and a sister Delores Conley.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Caryl Lee; four children; Debra (Vernon) Van Peursem of Sioux City, Iowa; Doug (Susan) Cline of Johnston, Iowa; Nancy (Randy) Ewing of Le Mars, Iowa; Dan (Tami) Cline of Spencer, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Tim (Kristin) Van Peursem, Jennifer (Jerry) Elbert, Michael (Sarah) Van Peursem, Tyler (RaeAnn) Van Peursem, Mitchell (Kelsey) Cline, Christopher (Callie) Cline, Katelyn (Layton) Elscott, Karter Ewing, Kadyn Cline, and Kaleb Cline; nine great grandchildren: Trey, Aiden, Bryce, Annie, J.P., Gerrit, Drew, Liam and Collins; four sisters: Dorothy (Seel) Bierman of Cherokee, Iowa; Norma Dean Stanfill of Edwardsville, Illinois; Helen Bartlett of Cherokee, Iowa; Glenda Heithus of Paullina, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
