DALE R. JULIUS, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Mercy One Med Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Doug Corlew will officiate. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion will be performed at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Dale's name to the Cherokee Public Library.

Dale was born May 27, 1930 to John and Mable (Ballantyne) Julius at Cherokee, Iowa.  He graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1948.  He was united in marriage on March 31, 1951 to Iva Whisler at Jackson, Minnesota.  Dale served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland.

In 1969, he purchased, owned, and operated Julius Drycleaners and Decorating in Cherokee, Iowa.  Dale never did fully retire, keeping himself busy assisting his son and daughter-in-law at their Julius Cleaners in Storm Lake, Iowa.

He was a member of Kiwanis and served his community of Cherokee being on the City Council.

Dale was a proud Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He  loved watching them on t.v. as well as the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins.  He was an animal lover, taking care of his pets over the years. He was an avid reader on his Kindle and listening to Big Band music. Dale loved spending time in Northern Minnesota and the Black Hills. He also liked fishing, going bowling but most of all he treasured spending time with his family.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Iva of 65 years, daughter Sandra Thompson, his parents, and his siblings.

Left to cherish Dale's memory are his children, Dennis (Diane) Julius of Storm Lake, Iowa, Alan (Susan) Julius of Cherokee, Iowa, and Marsha (Rory) Ruble of Waukee, Iowa; son-in-law, Denny Thompson of Mesquite, Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
