Obituary

DALE M. MAGNUSSEN , 77, of rural Larrabee, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, December 10, 2017 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Robin Thomas will officiate. Private family burial of the cremains will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Cherokee Hospice or a charity of your choice in memory of Dale.

Dale was born September 21, 1940 on the family farm in Spring Township, Cherokee, County, Iowa to August & Olga (Johnson) Magnussen. He graduated from Larrabee High School in 1958. He was a UTA 3 in the United States Navy, serving from October 1959 until October 1963.

Dale was married to Karen (Becker) Loucks on August 22, 1970 in Cherokee, Iowa. He had lived and farmed in the Larrabee area all of his life. Dale was a member of the Larrabee Methodist Church. He had served on the Larrabee Elevator Board, Cherokee County Pork Producers Board, was a member of Pheasants Forever, and the Larrabee American Legion in which he had held several different offices over the years. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents August & Olga Magnussen, his wife Karen on March 20, 2015, a brother Jerry, a daughter-in-law Lisa Loucks, mother-in-law and father-in-law Lois & Ronald Becker.


Dale is survived by his four step-children children: Sheri (Rod) Nissen of Estherville, Iowa; Mike (Nia) Loucks of Swisher, Iowa; Steve Loucks of Aurelia, Iowa; Kathi (Kevin) Halder of Cherokee, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Laura, Whitney and Kyle Halder; Amanda, Chelsea and Amber Loucks; Jessica (Ben) Wolfe; Nathan (Heather) Loucks and Jeremy Loucks; 4 great grandchildren: Adella, Kelton, Wyatt and Avery; one brother: Paul (Sharon) Magnussen of Milford, Iowa; two sisters: Ruby (Jack) Rupp of Ida Grove, Iowa; Janice (Bob) Werthman of Cherokee, Iowa; three brothers-in-law: Jim (Bette) Becker of Naples, Florida; Russell (Angy) Becker of Cherokee,Iowa; Terry (Denise) Becker of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; also several nieces, nephews and many friends.
