DALE ROBERT NELSON, 64, of Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of Phoenix, Arizona and originally from Sioux City, Iowa passed away Sunday morning, January 8, 2012 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held Friday, January 13th at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be on Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at the Church. The Boothby Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Dale was born on September 2, 1947 at Sioux City, Iowa to Vern & Jo Ann (Sweeney) Nelson. He attended Central High School in Sioux City and later earned his GED. He was in the United States Marine Corps. from 1966-1969. He was a construction and masonry worker for many years until his retirement in March of 2011 due to illness. He was affiliated with the Methodist church. He enjoyed golf, pool and was a fan of all sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dale is survived by 1 sister: Nancy Knapp and her husband Evan of Cherokee, Iowa; nieces & nephews: Sally Selby and her husband Jason of Kansas City, Missouri; Sue Sauer and her husband Jared and their sons Daniel and Ryan of Lanark, Illinois; Doug Knapp and his wife Cyndy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Heidi Howlett and her husband of Chuck Geneva, Illinois; aunt & uncle: Gary & Jane Baumann of Lincoln, Nebraska.
