DALE W. SKADELAND, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, April 4, 2021 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 9 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 8 th from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Please practice social distancing and masks will be required at the visitation and the memorial service. The memorial service will be live streamed on the Boothby Funeral Home website with the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions.
Dale was born on June 12, 1929 to Howard and Blanche (Gilbert) Skadeland at Cherokee, Iowa. He attended Larrabee Schools graduating in 1946. He enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1950. Prior to being shipped overseas, he was married Glenda Troxel on May 19, 1951 at Jackson, Minnesota. After being discharged from the Air Force, he returned to Cherokee to begin farming. He farmed his entire career, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He enjoyed helping fold the weekly church bulletins and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels.
Dale enjoyed being outdoors and staying busy. During the winter, he liked reading books. When they were younger, they enjoyed camping, motorcycling, and traveling. Dale was always there to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Blanche and Howard Skadeland, brother Kenneth Skadeland, and great-grandson Masyn Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife Glenda of almost 70 years of Cherokee, Iowa, daughters Cindy Holm of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, daughter Terri (Dave) Sage of Sioux City, Iowa, son Dave Skadeland of Cherokee, Iowa, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren Angie (Randy) Johnson and their children Mercer and Jamasyn, Andy (Erin) Holm and their child Elliot, Jayme (Vincent) Glassmaker and their children Bayle, Olivia, Lance, Isabelle and Samantha, Jason Skadeland and his daughter Willow, Jodi (Kyle) Johnson and their children Ayden, Jaycee, and Aria; his two sisters: Jean Fritts of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Norma Skadeland of Cherokee, Iowa.
