DANIEL D. MILLER, 79, of rural Paullina, Iowa, and formerly of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away, Tuesday afternoon, December 29, 2015 at his farm home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate and burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. with the family present from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Daniel was born on October 17, 1936 at Mora, Minnesota to Ernest J. & Anne (West) Miller. He attended school in Cushing, Iowa and later graduated from Cherokee High School in 1955. He was married to Melva Miles on November 29, 1958 at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. He had worked for a number of farmers over the years and also owned and operated Miller Repair west of Cleghorn for 27 years, retiring in 2003. After retiring they moved to a farm southwest of Paullina, Iowa. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He had been a 4-H leader with the Cherokee Cavaliers for many years and while in Indiana he was part of the Sheriff's Posse. Dan loved horses and horseback riding, painting tractors, and enjoyed helping the neighbors with their farm work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Berna Jenness and Lola Miller, two sisters-in-law Betty Miller and Liane Miller.
He is survived by his wife Melva; his children: Laura Elaine Kirchner of Storm Lake, Iowa; Daniel (Michelle) Miller of Marcus, Iowa; Roscoe Miller and special friend Shelly Tackett of Cleghorn, Iowa; Melva Ester Hermann and fiancé Mark Millikan of Meriden, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Marvin Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; Robert Miller of Tekamah, Nebraska; Mary (John) Dallmann of Tekamah, Nebraska; Ben (Mary Ellen) Miller of Axtell, Nebraska; also many nieces and nephews.
