DARLEEN D. JOHNSON, 87, of rural Quimby, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. Pastor Don Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Darleen was born September 22, 1924 in Ida County, Iowa to William and Frieda (Schmeelk) Gehrts. She attended country schools in Ida County. She was married to Maurice Johnson on September 19, 1946 at Marshalltown, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in Grand Meadow Township for many years and Darleen continued to work on the farm until the last few weeks of her life. She was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting cooking, gardening and animals around the farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice on June 16, 2002, a grandson David and an infant brother Clarence.
She is survived by four children: Danny Johnson and his wife Patricia of Farmington, Minnesota; Dayna Johnson and her husband Melvin Potthast of Glen Carbon, Illinois; Jerry Johnson and his wife Tamara of Marcus, Iowa; Jay Johnson and his special friend Jenn of Belleville, Illinois; 5 grandchildren: Tracey & Greg Aegerter; Paul & Emberly Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Tory Johnson and Tyler Johnson; 3 great grandchildren Delaney, Cooper and Odin; two sisters; Vera Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa and Norma Robbins and her husband Dutch of Cherokee, Iowa.
