DARREL C. "BUD" STROUD, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, March 15, 2017 in the Accura Healthcare at Cherokee, Iowa.

Bud was born on August 15, 1925 at Quimby, Iowa to Anuel and Annie (Stratton) Stroud. He attended Quimby Schools. He served in the U.S Army during WW II from 1943 until 1949. As an infantryman he served in the 40th Division in the Philippines; also in Europe as a driver for General Lucius Clay. He was married to Doris Brandt on June 4, 1950. He had farmed for several years, drove truck, Deputy Sheriff from 1963-1967, and was Cherokee County Sheriff from 1967 until his retirement on June 30, 1988. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Marcus, Iowa and later in Cherokee. He was a member of the Lyle Barnes Post #398 of the American Legion at Quimby, Iowa, L.A. Wescott Post #2253 V.F.W at Cherokee, Iowa Sheriff's Association, Deputy Sheriff's Association where he had served on the Board of Directors, N.W. Iowa Sheriff's Association and the Cherokee Flood Committee. Bud had a love for horses and rodeos, as well as motorhomes and he enjoyed travelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris on January 5, 2010, two brothers Garland and Jerry, two sisters: Dorothy (Donald) Clark and June (Tony) Reinert; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dick Stevenson, Albert Henrichsen, Red Steele, Kenneth (Florence) Brandt, Emory (Fern) Brandt, Donald (Lucy) Brandt.
He is survived by his daughter: Pam Ogella and her husband Ron of Madera, California; one granddaughter: Mara (Nick) Campbell of Madera, California; two great granddaughters: Bailey Herring and McKenna Campbell; his siblings: Roy (Lydia) Stroud of Quimby, Iowa; Evelyn Henrichsen of Correctionville, Iowa; Betty Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; Annabelle Steele of Fullerton, Nebraska; sisters-in-law Bonnie Stroud of Omaha, Nebraska; Lillian Stroud of Georgia; also many nieces and nephews.
