DARRELL E. EGGER, 78, of Cleghorn, Iowa passed away Thursday afternoon, October 31, 2019 in the Heartland Care Center at Marcus, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 8 th , at 11 a.m. at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. Pastor Tim Geitz will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Brien-Liberty Cemetery at Calumet, Iowa prior to the memorial service on Friday morning at 9 a.m. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 7 th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Darrell was born on May 6, 1941 on the family farm near Cleghorn, Iowa to Paul and Maude (Walker) Egger. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1959. He was married to Karen Lockwood on August 26, 1961 at Calumet, Iowa.
Darrell drove semi-truck for several companies over the years; Hove Truckline, Decker, Einck, Harker's, and Interlink. He also was an owner/operator. He drove several million miles-accident free. He attempted to retire several times, but always missed the call of the open road. His last trip was in October of 2018. He had also farmed for 20 years.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. He had been a member of the Farmer's Coop Elevator Board, Lion's Club, and the CML Telephone Board. Darrell enjoyed cruising in his classic convertible, morning coffee with the guys, and spending time with his grandkids. He was a Willie Nelson fan and enjoyed Polka music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon Egger, Donald (Norma) Egger, sister Virjean (Jack) Knudsen, brothers-in-law Stanley (Lola) Lockwood and Larry (Dallas) Lockwood.
He is survived by his wife Karen of Cleghorn, Iowa; two children: Brian (Debbi) Egger of Driftwood, Texas; Janell (Mark) Heimgartner of LeMars, Iowa; five grandchildren: Miles Egger, Markus Egger, Lindsay Egger, Kristen Heimgartner, and Jacob Heimgartner; sister Virginia (Richard) Wightman of Sioux City, Iowa; brother Jim (Betty) Egger of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Joanne (Larry) Kruse of The Villages, Florida; brother-in-law David (Cyndy) Lockwood of Kansas City, Missouri; also several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
