DAVID P. BENNETT, 93 , of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13th at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Kevin Roop will officiate.  There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Monday morning. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon, Iowa.  Public visitation will be on Sunday, December 12th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Boothby Funeral Home website with the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions.

David Philip Bennett was born on January 8, 1928 to John and Cassie Pearl (Green) Bennett at Oto, Iowa.  He grew up on a farm outside of Anthon-Oto. He attended Oto Country School and then Oto High School, graduating in 1947.  In the mid 1950's he worked for Boeing Airplane plant in Seattle, Washington.

Just prior to his marriage to Mary, he moved to rural Cherokee to work as a farm hand for Wilmer Rupp.  He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret McDermott on June 22, 1958 at Anthon, Iowa, together they had four children. In the mid 1960's he and his family moved into town off the farm and he worked for 25 years at Wilson Foods, which later became Continental Deli Foods until retirement in 1993.

David has been a resident of the Heartland Care Center for the last five years, prior to this he lived in Cherokee from 1958 until 2016.

He enjoyed fur trapping, reading, putting puzzles together, working on cars, traveling, and taking pictures.  He was a fix it man, loved making and fixing things.  He was an animal lover, especially dogs.  David loved spending time with his family and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary on September 22, 1996, daughter Lisa Fiedler, and two sisters, Dorothy Burbridge and Bonnie Meis.

He is survived by his three children, Julie (Paul) Gustafson of Remsen, Iowa, Diane (Robert) Sleezer of Aurelia, Iowa and Daniel (Renee) Bennett of Aurelia, Iowa; son-in-law Jeff Fiedler of Cherokee, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Cassie Sleezer, Whitnie Sleezer, Lacie Sleezer, Sarah Bennett, Johnathan Bennett, Alisha Fiedler, JD Fiedler, Paula Larsen, and Shane Gustafson; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ava Bennett, Audrina Bennett, Jaxson Bennett, Dallas Manteufel, Zalias Solomon, Zadrian Solomon, Mazy Pitts, Savanah Johnson, Andrew Larsen, and Jonathan Larsen.
