David was born May 18, 1941 in Chariton, Iowa to Howard and Wyvonne (Robinson) Gentry. He was
married to Phyllis Johnson and later to Bridget Honodel. After graduating from Chariton High School, he
attended Central College in Fayette, Missouri. He worked in sales and later as an associate of Wilson
Foods. In his retirement, he kept busy with his commitment to the Meriden Evangelical Free Church and
with a number of part-time jobs, including in a Walmart automotive department. His favorite post-
retirement gig was with the Boys and Girls Home.
He entertained various interests. He joined a bowling league, was a tropical fish hobbyist,
started a private home brewery, volunteered as a Webelos den leader for the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed fishing.
His long-time "side hustle" was as a locksmith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Wyvonne, his sister Janice, and his wife Bridget.
David is survived by his children Michael of Sioux City, William of Skellytown, Texas, Donald of
Daytona Beach, Florida, Jewell of Kingwood, Texas, Natalie (Brian) Herron of Cherokee, and Jamie
(Tim) Hennings of Stonewall, Louisiana; sister Shirley of Trenton, Missouri; grandchildren Hayley,
Justin, Hannah, Christopher, Dylan, and Sydney; and great grandchildren Aurora, Adalyn, Lillian, Hadley,
Jonathan, Avery, Scarlett, Clayton, and Layla-mae.
In his final days he was surrounded by his family and loving caretakers, one of whom was the best nurse
he could have asked for: his granddaughter Hannah. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude
to Cherokee Regional Hospice and Careage Hills for the superior care and compassion they extended to
David before his journey home to glory where he is rejoicing with Bridget free from the chains of
sickness and pain.
